If you're researching TMJ Botox in Burnaby or Vancouver, you've probably noticed that almost nobody publishes a price - and the quotes you do get vary enormously.
The reason is simple: TMJ Botox is not priced by a single standard dose. Your total cost depends on the amount of Botox required, where it is injected, who is injecting, the provider's fees, and whether your extended health plan covers therapeutic Botox.
At my practice, I don't use a one-size-fits-all dose or quote a treatment price before assessing you. Your jaw muscles, symptoms, treatment history, and goals are assessed first. If Botox is appropriate, we determine the treatment plan and review your expected cost before proceeding.
In September 2026 we contacted more than a dozen clinics across Burnaby, New Westminster and Vancouver - dental offices, cosmetic clinics, and med spas - and asked what they charge. The honest picture:

A quoted price per unit can be misleading because the number of units used varies substantially between patients and providers.

BOTOX® Therapeutic prescribed by a physician may be covered by some extended health plans when it is being used for an eligible medical condition. Coverage varies between insurers and individual plans, so it cannot be guaranteed. The insurance pathway can also be different from dental coverage for TMJ treatment.
One distinction worth understanding: when a plan covers BOTOX® Therapeutic, it is generally covering the drug itself. The injection or treatment fee is usually separate, and is not always covered the same way. Both parts of your expected cost are reviewed with you upfront.
If you have extended health benefits, my office can work with a specialty pharmacy to help coordinate the prescription and insurance process. Your expected coverage and out-of-pocket cost are reviewed before you decide whether to proceed with treatment.
There is no single correct dose for TMJ or jaw clenching. Treatment is individualized based on factors including masseter size and strength, severity of clenching or grinding, your pain and tension pattern, previous Botox treatment and response, facial anatomy, whether the temporalis muscles also contribute, and joint stability.
I generally prefer to start conservatively and adjust treatment based on your response rather than automatically using a large dose. This is particularly important for patients with hypermobility or EDS, where the jaw may rely more heavily on muscular support for stability.
That depends on what is causing your symptoms.
Botox can be useful when jaw pain and tension are driven by overactive muscles, clenching, or bruxism. It is not the right treatment for every cause of TMJ pain. A night guard, dental treatment, physiotherapy, behavioural strategies, or assessment by another specialist may be more appropriate depending on the underlying problem. Where tight neck and shoulder muscles feed the pain pattern, trigger point injections can also be used - sometimes alongside Botox in the same visit.
The purpose of the consultation is to determine whether Botox makes sense for you - not simply to inject because you have jaw pain.
